Red or white wine? Well, perhaps your choice depends on what ails you. A recent study found that the color of your wine benefits your health in different ways. Iowa State University researchers also found that drinking either red or white wine is a healthier option than consuming beer or spirits. How? They determined that beer and booze both lead to higher levels of visceral fat – the more harmful type that wraps around organs and can cause heart disease and other problems. The study found that consuming wine did not lead to the same buildup of visceral fat, and drinking red wine actually contributes to having less. In addition to not influencing the growth of visceral fat, white wine was found to contribute to having stronger bones among older drinkers, compared to those opting for red wine or beer. And remember, while some reports have found that even a single glass of alcohol shrinks the brain, others have found that red wine does everything from improving gut health to lowering diabetes risk.

Ryan Reynolds will be the 36th recipient of the American Cinematheque Award. In the announcement, AC Board Chair Rick Nicita said: “Ryan Reynolds is a Renaissance Man 2.0 for our times. He is an actor, a business entrepreneur, a writer, a comedian, a producer and a creative innovator on screen and off…and most important, a true movie star. Reynolds will be honored at a ceremony at The Beverly Hilton on Nov. 17, an annual fundraiser for the non-profit organization.
“Fast & Furious” director Justin Lin will no longer direct the franchise’s next installment “Fast X”. Just days after filming film began last week, Lin has announced his decision to “step back as director.” Lin, who co-wrote the film, and directed 5 others in the franchise, said he will remain involved as a producer. While Lin did not provide a reason, sources say “the parting was amicable between both parties” and Lin “ultimately decided to step away from the franchise due to creative differences.”

A hair-braiding class for dudes? Why not? Annis Waugh owns Braid Maidens in St. Albans, England, and as part of a fundraiser for a local school, she set up workshops for parents. After realizing she never had a man enroll in any of her hair-braiding classes, she designed a course called “Beers and Braids” to appeal to dads. The class sold out, with dozens of fathers signing up for the waiting list. Waugh taught the dads about hair textures and types, and demonstrated brushing and braiding techniques. The men practiced on plastic heads, and “were super engaged and really enthusiastic learners,” according to Waugh. One father says he signed up so he could help his daughters get ready for school, because “It shouldn’t just be one gender doing stuff like this. The more we do and share the load, the better it is for my daughters.”
