THIS WEEK'S DEAR JOHN LETTER!

Dear John,

I have two friends getting married on the same day next year. I was asked to be in the wedding party for both of them. I was asked first by a friend from college who is a good friend, but the next week my best friend since kindergarten asked me to be her maid of honor on the very same day. I have not told either of them about the issue yet because I want to make sure I do the right thing. It's not until next August, so there is plenty of time before their weddings. I'm very happy for both of my friends. I know the weddings will be at slightly different times, but I don't think I could pull off being at both weddings. The thought of that makes me a little sick. What do I do? I'm leaning towards making sure I'm there for my best friend. Do you think my other friend will understand? Any advice?

Signed – Wedding Partier

It probably won’t come as a surprise to women, but according to a new study, men think they’re funnier, and are happier in relationships if they’re led to believe they are superior in the comedy department. The study — titled “Do they fit together like the Joker and Harley Quinn?” — tried to understand how humor fits into long-term relationships. The researchers, from the University of Silesia in Poland, surveyed 149 heterosexual couples on the comedic aspects of their relationships. They found that men tell more jokes than women and think their jokes are funnier. The researchers concluded that a simple way to make your man happy is to let him think his jokes are better than yours.

Leaning your head to the right is the most natural way humans kiss, and there’s good reason, according to a recent study. UK scientists examined 48 married couples in Bangladesh, hoping to learn more about kissing tendencies in non-Western societies. Bangladeshis were chosen because they are barred from viewing kissing on TV or film, and thus aren’t influenced by societal factors. Two-thirds of Bangladeshi couples — whether they initiated or received the kiss — were found to turn their heads to the right while kissing. The researchers believe that one’s head tilt while kissing is in part determined by their predominant hand, explaining why a tilt to the right is most common. The tendency may go all the way back to one’s prenatal care, as babies have been observed tilting their head to the right in the womb.

Soon, Marvel fans will be able to take a ride through the Multiverse. A new “Avengers Campus” attraction is heading to Disneyland in Anaheim, California, allowing parkgoers to journey through the MCU’s many, many universes. The news was announced on Sunday at the D23 Expo’s Parks panel, which featured parks chairman Josh D’Amaro and Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige. D’Amaro said the ride — which does not have an official opening date — will see parkgoers team up with the Avengers from multiple universes to defeat ‘King Thanos’, a version of the character that won at the end of the 2019 film “Avengers: Endgame.”

Drew Barrymore was gobsmacked that her ‘rain frolic’ went viral. The “Charlie’s Angels” star and talk show host posted a joyful video to Instagram of herself rejoicing as she frolicked outside during a downpour in July. In the clip, she tips her head toward the sky and says: “Whenever you can, go out into the rain! Do not miss the opportunity!” The video has been viewed over 22 million times and racked up over 10 million likes. While on the red carpet at the Harper’s Bazaar ICONS party in New York, she told reporters that she “had no idea [it would go viral]…it was just a moment.” LINK: https://www.instagram.com/p/CgHP791LNX9/?hl=en

Eating a snack, going for a walk or scrolling through social media: No matter how you spend them, microbreaks of 10 minutes or less during work boosts energy levels, according to new research by scientists in Romania. Their study finds “microbreaks” boost an employee’s vigor and decreases their fatigue throughout the day. The researchers say their findings show microbreaks are a potentially useful strategy to help well-being in the workplace, as heavy workloads and long shifts become increasingly common. A break of up to 10 minutes was found to decrease the risk of mistakes and refocus the worker’s attention on the job at hand. It was also determined that taking longer breaks actually increased performance as well as energy levels even more.

Scientists have come up with a new app that can detect Covid-19 in your voice. Dutch researchers say the AI-powered technology is easier to use and is more precise than a lateral flow test. The app is downloaded to the user’s phone. The person then asked to record some respiratory sounds, including coughing, breathing deeply through the mouth, and reading a short sentence 3 times. A voice technique called Mel-spectrogram analysis is used to identify different voice features like loudness, power and variation. It takes less than a minute to find positive cases and gives the correct result 89% of the time. Negative cases are correctly diagnosed 83% of the time. The new app could be used to detect cases of Covid before big gatherings such as concerts and sports events. It could also be used in poorer countries where PCR tests are pricy to buy and hard to distribute.

WEIRD NEWS: Brought to you by WeirdGiftOfTheDay.com

Domino’s has finally settled the argument over whether you can throw your used pizza boxes into recycling. Now, printed on every pizza box they deliver in the US, Domino’s is including specific recycling instructions for the customer’s area. Why? Literally billions of corrugated cardboard pizza boxes have gone unrecycled over the years because both consumers and recycling companies believed the leftover grease, sauce, and cheese might gum up the recycling machinery, or weaken the quality of the recycled paper material. To look into the matter, the company that makes Domino’s pizza boxes, West Rock, commissioned a study to see if boxes made up of 20% pizza grease by weight would harm the recycling process. No difference in machine function or quality of recycling paper material was observed, despite the fact that they used an unrealistically greasy box. With that cleared up, Domino’s is now printing everything a customer needs to know to recycle their pizza box right onto the box, including statements like: “Grease DOES NOT Impact the Recyclability!” and “70% of Americans have access to pizza box recycling.” Domino’s recycling website includes contact info for recycling facilities to ask whether or not they accept boxes, as only 27% of US companies specifically mention they accept pizza boxes.
