THIS WEEK'S DEAR JOHN LETTER!
Dear John,
Since you and Heidi have both been divorced, maybe you can help. When do you call it? My wife is the nicest person most people have ever met. That’s to their faces. It used to be her mom and I that knew the real her. Her mom passed, and now it’s our daughter and I that see it. We just “celebrated” a fairly high anniversary by today’s standards. We never do anything that married couples should do. It’s been close to two years, and I don’t even care. I work two jobs while the part time job would pay our bills because a- she’s greedy (her whole family is) and b- I just don’t want to go home. I’d like to make things easier for my daughter, but at what expense? When do you look for a happy life? I don’t wish bad for her, but am struggling with our current situation. She just hit a mile marker birthday, and could pass pretty easily for the previous mile marker. Maybe she could find someone more successful if we cut ties now? Maybe she could find what she needs? I’ve supported every decision she’s made. I’ve given her all I can. I’ll do anything for my daughter, but don’t want to drag something on that should be abandoned. What do I do from here? I don’t want to die feeling how I do right now.

STUDIES & SUCH: Brought to you by BetterCreditCards.com
Easy, guys, it’s LinkedIn, not Tinder! A new study suggests many romantic hopefuls are turning to the online job networking site in attempts at making . . . more personal connections. A survey was conducted by Passport Photo Online among women who log into LinkedIn at least once per week. 91% said they have been on the receiving end of romantic advances on the “professional” site. And in some ways, it makes sense. LinkedIn provides would-be daters with a look at a person’s interests, and perhaps in a more honest way than a person’s dating profile would. But of course, since it’s not the site’s intended use, many users — 74%, actually— admitted to dialing back their activity on LinkedIn due to receiving inappropriate messages. And among women who received at least one romantic LinkedIn message, about 43% say they have clapped back, letting would-be suitors know they’ve crossed a line.

It
seem that fast-food and casual dining delivery is becoming less
popular – as more people are opting to put on some clothes, comb
their hair, and actually go pick it up themselves — or even opt to
eat-in. US analysts say the dip in delivery is mainly because people
are watching their wallets these days. With lockdowns behind us,
consumers are no longer willing to pay the fees AND inflated menu
prices associated with ordering through an app.

The reign of “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” atop the box office charts has come to an end. “Blue Beetle” opened with an estimated domestic $25 million opening weekend. Prior to release, Blue Beetle was projected to rake in $28-32 million, so even though it has overcome “Barbenheimer”, it’s a bit of a disappointment for Warner Bros. “Strays” did even worse, opening with a projected $8.5 million, for 4th place, after ‘Barb’ and ‘enheimer’.
James Gunn is making a ‘Superman’ movie with a younger actor than former Man of Steel Henry Cavill, but that doesn’t mean he’s making a “young Superman movie” per se. The writer, director and DC Studios’ co-chief took to Threads to clarify something that many have assumed about “Superman: Legacy” and the reason he changed leads from Cavill (who is 40) to David Corenswet (who is 30). A fan asked Gunn if his “young Superman movie” is set in the past. Gunn replied: “I was never making a ‘young Superman’ movie, just a Superman movie!” Superman: Legacy is scheduled for release in 2025.

WEIRD NEWS: Brought to you by WeirdGiftOfTheDay.com
A series of “robots-are-dumb” incidents in San Francisco has prompted local officials to try to halt the recently-approved expansion of self-driving taxis in the city. Since the robotaxi expansion got the green light on August 10…
• 10 driverless “Cruise” taxis came to a stop and clogged an intersection near a music festival. The company said the vehicles stopped functioning because concertgoers overwhelmed cell networks, interrupting the cars’ communications.
• A person was injured when the autonomous Cruise car they were riding in failed to yield to an oncoming fire truck, which was responding to an emergency.
• Another Cruise car drove through a construction site and, just like in a cartoon, became stuck in wet concrete.
